Yoga is not an Excercise

To treat yoga as just another exercise form is a farce because the yogic system involves not just exercising the muscular and skeletal systems of the body, but also exercising the internal organs and the involuntary systems in the body. It is a process of bringing that which is involuntary within us into the voluntary realm. So, you can have sufficient mastery over the system then everything within your system- slowly begins to happen consciously rather than unconsciously and compulsively.

Yoga is a process of completely overhauling the system in such a way that health and well-being come from within. Above all, it aligns the physical, the mental and the pranic (energy) systems in such a way the source of creation within ourselves finds expression. So, yoga is not just an exercise, it is a process and a system to enhance the human being in an overall way and to manipulate one’s energies so that individual human beings can find their highest possible potential within themselves.

Yoga Day

Yoga, Meditation, Spiritual, Mental, Hinduism

Treating yoga as an exercise form, or even comparing yoga to some other exercise system, is completely out of context. When we talk about fitness, it can be of many kinds for different requirements. For example, a wrestler needs one kind of fitness. An executive needs a different level of fitness. An athlete needs another kind of fitness. Fitness means every aspect of you, is functioning at its optimal level. So, the yogic system is focused towards taking an individual to his ultimate possibility  and towards fulfilling his ultimate potential.

The best part of the yogic processes is that you do not need any equipment or any help from anybody else. If you are there, that is sufficient. All you need is a space of three feet by six feet in which every kind of exercise that is needed for the system can be performed. when you practice yoga, it is a complete system.

Devil’s Pet

Imagine meeting a snarling black beast with a gaping mouth and strong gleaming teeth in the dead of the night! You could meet such an animal on the Australian island of Tasmania, now the only home of the animal known as Tasmanian devil. It was once abundant in mainland Australia. But when the Aborigines came, the dogs they brought, the dingos, ousted the devil from the mainland.

The spine-chilling research of the marsupial, its jet black appearance and bad temper made size of a small dog- 75cm high at the shoulder-but it can look and sound incredibly fierce. Its monstrous screech like that of a hyena has made people sometimes call it the Tasmanian hyena.

Tasmanian devil

Tasmanian devil

The Tasmanian devil has powerful jaws and teeth and can devour its prey completely- bones, fur and all. The massive jaws have a gape of 120 degrees giving it a threatening look. Although it is believed that the animal gapes more out of fear and uncertainty than out of aggression, a naturalist when asked if the Tasmanian devil was as ferocious as it looked, replied, “Maybe, maybe not.”

The Tasmanian devil prays on birds, small mammals, and insects and also eats dead animals. It hunts mainly at night and spends the day in a cave or in the hollow of a log.

The female gives birth to 30 young called ‘imps’ at  a time. Each is slightly larger than a grain of rice. They are carried in a pouch on the mother’s belly for 5 months, after which they are left in the nest, while the mother is away feeding. Imps become independent after about 28 weeks.

Great Analogy

You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and shoves you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere. Why did you spill the coffee?

Cup of coffee - an analogy

“Well because someone bumped me, of course!”

Wrong answer.

You spilled the coffee because coffee was in the cup.

If tea had been in it, you would have spilled tea.

Whatever is inside the cup is what will come out.

Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which will happen), whatever is inside of you will come out. It is easy to fake it until you get rattled.

So we have to ask ourselves…what is in my cup?

When life gets tough, what spills over?

Joy, gratefulness, peace and humility? or

Anger, bitterness, harsh words and actions?

You choose!

Today let us work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation to yourself and others.

The Greenhouse Effect

What is the greenhouse effect?

The gases will surround the earth-water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane and others allow the sun’s heat to come in but they don’t let the heat out again easily. This is called the greenhouse effect.

Why the name?

Because a similar thing happens in a greenhouse where plants which require protection from the weather are grown. The only difference is that in a greenhouse it is the glass roof that prevents the heat from escaping.

Is the greenhouse effect beneficial to earth?

It is for the greenhouse effect, a lot of heat would escape from the earth into space and temperatures could come down before freezing point.

Why is the greenhouse effect hurting us?

The percentage of greenhouse gases especially methane and carbon dioxide- has been steadily increasing. They are trapping more heat in the atmosphere than necessary.

Greenhouse Effect on Earth

Is the earth becoming hotter?

Yes, earth’s temperature has increased slightly. But even that is significant and the effects of global warming are already visible.

Do you know?

In Alaska, global warming is having a reverse effect. As the glaciers in Alaska, melt, the land which was buried under them is rising rapidly, causing the sea to retreat.
