Secularization Thesis

A historical process in which religion is losing a presumed central place in society, perhaps as an unavoidable consequence of modernization, through institutional differentiation, changing patterns of legitimation and authority, rationalization, privatization, and individuation. It implies a unilinear historical development positing an inevitable decline of religion and /or religiosity.
