Belgium’s capital city, Brussels, has been a city of importance since the Middle ages. The historic Grand Place ( Grote Markt) of Brussels is considered to be one of the most impressive town squares of Europe. Every two years, in August, this town square is decorated with a massive flower carpet made of fresh begonias.
Brussels also contains modern attractions like the ‘Mini Europe’ where miniature prototypes of major European structures are placed for viewing. Another attraction is a huge 102m, high structure called the Atomium that is constructed like a cluster of atoms.
