Today’s word is



to adorn with hanging chains of flowers, foliage, ribbon, etc.

Festoon originated from the term festa, which shares a meaning with the English word of the same spelling, “a feast. festival or holiday.”

The above word can be used as verb or a noun.

As a verb:

  1. to adorn with or as with festoons: to festoon a hall.
  2. to form into festoons: to festoon flowers and leaves

As a noun:

a string or chain of flowers, foilage, ribbon, etc. suspended in a curve between two points.

a decorative representation of this, as in architectural work or poetry.
